Bioinformatician MRC LMS Bioinformatics Team Fixed Term, 3 years with the possibility of extension £35,340 - £38,181 pa inclusive London, UK

The London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) at Hammersmith Hospital is the third directly funded MRC research institute and enjoys close links with its partners at Imperial College and at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The LMS research focuses on strengthening the basic science underpinning our understanding of human diseases and the translation of such high-quality research into a clinical setting.

Responsibilities:

The role provides a unique opportunity to work both with leading edge experimental and bioinformatics techniques across the diversity of research topics within the LMS and in establishing the bioinformatics infrastructure necessary to maintain high quality computational genomics research within the institute. Qualifications:

A master’s degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or Biological Sciences or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience

Knowledge and experience (will be assessed from application form and at interview):

Knowledge of molecular biology and genomics

Experience with bioinformatics techniques and tools used in molecular biology and genomics

Experience in using R and Bioconductor packages in the analysis of biological data

Experience of ChIP-seq, RNA-Seq, and single cell data analysis

Evidence of a high level of skill in at least one general programming language (Python, Java or C++ are preferred)

Proven ability in software development and the collaborative use of source control

Experience in training biologists and bioinformaticians in the use of bioinformatic tools

Track record of contribution to peer reviewed publications

Proficiency in web programming (Ruby on Rails, Django, Javascript)

Experience building and managing MySQL databases
