Award Opportunities
For the 2018 workshop season, the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops is again pleased to offer award opportunities to eligible participants. The CBW recognizes the need to gain advanced training in bioinformatics and advance research, and has secured award funding to make this possible.
Both registration and travel funding opportunities are available to eligible applicants. An applicant is eligible to apply for only one award, either the Registration award or Travel award, not both awards, so please choose the most appropriate award to your situation. An individual will only receive one Registration or Travel award for the expenses of a single workshop per year.
Registration Awards
The CBW registration award will cover the registration fee for up to two (2) participant's for each workshop (2-day workshop: $475+TAX; or 2.5-day workshop: $575+TAX; or 3-day workshops: $700+TAX).
Travel Award
The travel award will cover the travel and accommodation fees for attendance at a workshop (some restrictions apply). Registration fees will be the responsibility of the participant.
How to Apply
Interested participants should review the eligibility criteria provided below and complete the award section of the Application Form.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a graduate student, post-doctoral fellow or clinical fellow
- Must be attending a Canadian university, college, teaching hospital or not-for profit research institution
Deadline
The workshop application complete with your award application must be submitted by the early registration closing date of April 12, 2018 at 11:59pm EDT. Decisions will be announced at least 1 month prior to the start of each workshop.
Application Requirements
A completed 2018 Workshop Application will contain a section for the CBW Awards, including information discussing how attendance in the stated workshops will benefit the applicant’s project, skills and career.
Review Process
Award applications will be reviewed by an appointed Award Review Committee. The Committee will review all complete applications received for each workshop in 2018 and will inform only successful applicants by email approximately one month prior to the workshop start date. For example, if the workshop starts on June 8, 2018, then recipients will be notified by May 8, 2018. Only two (2) applicants per workshop will receive funding based on availability of funding.
The CBW awards will be issued as a reimbursement of registration payment to the participant upon return of all relevant receipts.
