Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics and Computational Neuroscience
We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow with a background in bioinformatics, neuroinformatics, or computational neuroscience. The position is in the Laboratory for Computational Genomics, under the supervision of Dr. Shreejoy Tripathy (https://triplab.org/) at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). The post-doc will contribute to a growing multi-disciplinary team composed of wet and dry lab scientists at the new Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics, based at the CAMH College Street Site in downtown Toronto.
Responsibilities:
The post-doc will lead a multi-disciplinary computational project relating human genetics (rare and common variants) to neuron and circuit phenotypes, including neuronal gene expression, electrophysiology, and morphology. The project will make use of recent publicly accessible datasets as well as datasets provided by experimental collaborators. The long-term vision for this work is to better understand the cellular changes that underlie psychiatric and neurological disorders and to ultimately develop approaches that can help guide personalized treatments.
The fellow will be encouraged to shape the details of the project based on their specific interests. The fellow will also have numerous opportunities to collaborate with experimental neuroscientists at the University of Toronto as well as clinician-scientists at CAMH and other hospitals.
Qualifications:
● A PhD in neuroscience or bioinformatics (or equivalent computational discipline)
● Considerable experience programming, scripting, and analyzing data in a high-level language (e.g., R, Python, or MATLAB)
● A track record for independent research and a strong publication record
● Experience working with multiple genomics data types, ideally relevant to neuroscience (e.g., SNP arrays, single-cell transcriptomics, neuron electrophysiology, etc.)
● Experience working in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment
● Experience teaching, mentoring students, and developing open source software would be a plus
● Hands-on experience collecting experimental data in neuroscience or molecular biology would be a plus
